FASAL, a Centre of Entrepreneurship (CoE) for IoT in Agriculture established by STPI at Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth
with specialized state-of-the-art incubation facility and physical laboratories for start-ups in the area of Agri Tech / Smart Agri where the highest-standards and best-practices in terms of infrastructure, technology, leadership, mentoring, training, research & development, funding, networking for the given focus area is made available.
Akola district is land of cotton which is famously known as white gold district of Maharashtra State. Cotton is the most important cash crop of western Vidarbha region. Eight out of eleven districts of Vidarbha are primarily cotton growing. Cotton farming is the backbone of the farmers of Yavatmal, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Buldhana and Washim districts in western Vidarbha. However, with scanty rains and very limited irrigation facilities at disposal, cotton farmers are often exposed to higher risks that many times result in loss of income.
The second largest crop grown in Vidarbha region is Soybean which is predominant in kharif season. In eastern Vidarbha region, paddy is the most dominant crop. It is generally grown with pigeon pea and this is the most remunerative cropping system followed by the farmers. However, the productivity of soybean has been declining in the past few years. This necessitates crop diversification in the area.Green gram, black gram and groundnut are also grown during kharif. Chick pea is the most predominant crop grown in rabi. Citrus is the main fruit crop grown among the horticultural crops and Nagpur is known as orange city.
Akola is having one of the oldest state Agriculture University, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), an agricultural university which was established on 20th October, 1969.
For developing a holistic approach to sustainable development, including awareness of sustainable resource management practices are essential. It is envisioned that innovations in agriculture would transform existing slowdown in agriculture into a vibrant and competitive environment by harnessing untapped opportunities in domestic and global markets. It is believed that agricultural innovation, research and development would augment farmers' income, generate employment opportunities, conserve natural resources, promote exports and increase value addition for higher and comprehensive agricultural growth.

Incubation & Co-Working Facilities
- CoE shall monitor and guide start-ups through dedicated portfolio managers and start-up support executives.
- CoE shall review and monitor the progress/performance of start-ups periodically and take necessary action as and when required in co-ordination with PMG.
Technology and Business Mentoring
- Mentors shall identify specific needs at specific time like prototyping/design vendors, small - scale manufacturing vendors, large - scale manufacturing vendors ect. and makes best efforts to connect the start-ups with such echosystem players.
- Full-time resource presence and organizing peer meetings with mentors at regular intervals.
- Platform for accessing the mentor through an online portal.
- Train/educate start-ups in the fields of research, user experience and business technology courses with cutting edge programming and deep-tech applications.
- Support the start-ups for developing Proof of Concept, provide mentoring for designing & development and help start-ups to convert their idea into a reality.
- Transforming the start-ups from idea level to Prototype level, Prototype level to MVP (Minimum Viable Product) level, MVP level to GTM (GoToMarket) level and graduating the start-ups into full-fledged company status.
- Providing a multidisciplinary approach in developing innovative products based on identified business challenges.
- Support for developing, enhancing and piloting start-ups prototype and business model in a collaborative environment.
- Conducting need-based mentoring sessions on legal, compliance, branding, cyber security, domain techologies etc.
Marketing, Networking and Outreach
- Beneficiary incubatees of CoE FASAL shall be included in marketing knowledge sessions, conducting road shows,networking events, social media outreach.
- International events/programs shall be organized to attract global visibility.
- CoE's end-to-end marketing plans will place your start-up on the global map.
- Partnerships with key international profasalal agencies shall be carried out for cross border collaboration.
Access to Funding and Investment
- CoE shall support and guide start-ups for raising funds towards PoC, MVP and Marketing as well as scaling up through grants, equity and debt by leveraging connections with potential customers and CSR/Corporate sources as well as angels, High Net worth Individuals (HNIs) and VCs as per appropriate size of start-ups.
IPR related support services
- STPI has signed MoU with M/s. NRDC (National Research and Development Corporation) for filing Intellectual Property Rights such as Patenting (Drafting & Filing), Trademark, Copyright and any other IPR related support/legal/statutory support.

Company Type
The start-up should be incorporated as a
- Private Limited Company (as defined in the Companies Act, 2013) or
- Registered Partnership Firm (Regd. under section 59 of the Partnership Act, 1932) or
- Limited Liability Partnership (under the Liability Partnership Act 2008)
The date of registration/incorporation should not be beyond 10 years.
If a company is not registered, an application may be made in the names of the promoters/founders. However, the promoters/founders must ensure that the company is registered within a period of 3 months from the date of selection for CoE.
Annual Turnover
Start-up should have an annual turnover not exceeding Rs. 100 crore for any of the financial years since its incorporation.
Original Entity
Entity should not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an already existing business.
Innovative & Scalable
Entity should be working towards innovation, development or improvement of products, services or processes and should have the potential to generate employment/ create wealth.
Other Terms & Conditions
- The start-up has to offer equity upto 3% to STPI/STPINEXT as decided & agreed upon as per operational guidelines.
